The state interior minister of Hesse, Peter Beuth confirmed that the gunman was shot dead, DW reported.

The motives of the shooter are still not known, reported DW, adding that the local police have announced a press embargo.

According to German media, several people have been injured, possibly by tear gas thrown by the attacker.

“We don’t know who the shooter is or what kind of weapons he has, but the possibility this could be a terror attack is crossing the minds of people here in Germany,” CNN’s Atika Shubert reported from Berlin.
